The law currently gives you more rights when you are married or enter into a civil partnership than as cohabitees. One important legal consequence of being married is that you have matrimonial home rights which means that you have the right to live in a property that is owned in your spouse’s name and that right can be registered at the Land Registry to notify any potential purchaser and protect your claim against the property on divorce.

After a lot of hard work and dedication to achieving his goal our licensed conveyancer, Ikram Dola, has qualified and will be admitted as a solicitor on 1st March 2018.

Separation and divorce is always difficult for us to deal with as adults so imagine how children feel when their parents separate. Whatever their age they are likely to feel a real sense of loss and may feel that they are in some way to blame.

Did you know that within divorce proceedings the court has the power, as well as making orders for maintenance and transferring or selling property and other capital assets, to share pensions? Pension sharing orders enable the pension company to transfer a specified percentage of the pension into a pension in the other person’s name and can be made in respect of all pensions even those in payment.
